Because 5 star hotel’s price and the room quality are almost same, in every Asian countries. (only room atmosphere are different. )
On the other hand, 1-4 star hotels are really different by country you go.

Taiwan > Japan, Singapore > S.Korea >>China>Malaysia, Myanmar >> Thai > Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia > Cambodia > India, Laos
Some countries have huge difference between city zone hotel and rural one.
and sometimes feel nonsense about star system.
Questionable hotel evaluation system
For example, Japanese hotels are safe and clean, even though fewer than 2 stars.
I have never seen roaches or bugs in my experience (in more than about 100 nights in Japan)
But I’ve easily seen those bugs in one another country’s 4 star hotel.
Conversely, 3 and 4 star Japanese hotel rooms are often so smaller than other countries one. I think that star checks are different from each country.
(Sorry for Indian people, I don’t think some of Indian 3-5 stars hotels are feels like 1-2 stars, because of black toilet water, stain on the beds, and bad bathroom…)
Check-in time and check-out time are also different by country.
In Vietnam, many hotels are 2PM to 11AM, sometimes you can check in before the time. but another country checking times are very different hotel by hotel, some hotels require checking-out at 9 AM.
And some hotels are outlawed from star system. In India, there are ship hotel along the Culcutta river. In Japan there are this creepy hotels in some cities. Check it out a kind of hotel distopia.lol
Anyway, from my experience, before reservation, checking star 1 or 2 reviews in review website. Probably you can avoid bad experience more effectively!
